Make A Paper Straw Ecology Science Experiment
In this fun and easy ecology science experiment, we’re going to make a paper straw.
- Cut a strip of paper 2 inches by 10 inches.
- Holding down a corner of the strip of paper, start rolling the paper up in a diagonal direction so that it begins forming a cylinder.
- Once the strip is rolled up, tape the ends to hold the paper in the straw shape.
How it Works:
A straw is an example of a single use plastic. These types of disposable plastics can be damaging to the environment. In this simple experiment, we made a straw out of paper which is a more sustainable material.

Consider other examples of single use plastics and explore creating sustainable replacements.
