Greetings Flyer:

To provide information to your students’ parents about the field trip, simply download the greetings flyer HERE and either:

  • Email it directly to your parents (cut down on paper waste) or
  • Print it out to send home with the students

What’s Covered?:

NC-STANDARDS

  • 4.E.2 Understand the use of fossils and changes in the surface of the earth as evidence of the history of Earth and its changing life forms.
  • 4.E.2.1 Compare fossils (including molds, casts, and preserved parts of plants and animals) to one another and to living organisms.
  • 4.E.2.2 Infer ideas about Earth’s early environments from fossils of plants and animals that lived long ago.
  • 4.E.2.3 Give examples of how the surface of the earth changes due to slow processes such as erosion and weathering, and rapid processes such as landslides, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes.

Classroom Preparation:

  • Arrange desks/tables into groups of 4
  • Please place a small table or desk for the Scientist to use in front of the classroom
  • Allow the Scientist to use a portion of your white/chalk board
  • Please provide a trash can at the front of the classroom
  • Remain in the classroom with your students (for liability reasons)
  • If necessary, help maintain appropriate classroom behavior
