Hortons Creek Elementary is our Spotlight School of the Week
GRADE: 1st
PROGRAM: Living Lab
Scientist: Maddie O’Beirne
I had the pleasure of going to Hortons Creek today and will get to go back tomorrow! I was greeted by really friendly staff members who helped me navigate the school (which can be trickier than you think with a cart full of bins!) The teachers were so friendly and offered to help me throughout our experiments passing items out to the junior scientists. The first graders I worked with today had so much energy! They were so excited to see me walking into their rooms, they listened to all of my directions, and they defined all of the vocabulary covered. Our program today was called Living Lab. We get to learn about habitats, organisms, predators, prey, and decomposers! The scientists were SOOOO brave when I brought out a Leopard Gecko, a scorpion, a tarantula, and a very friendly Ball Python (snake) named Timmy! The scientists had so many questions about the animals and knew exactly what 5 things animals need to survive (Water, Food, Oxygen, Shelter, and Space!) The scientists finished our program by making their own habitat that has a producer (lima bean) and decomposer (worm) in it! Thank you for the awesome day of science experiments, Hortons Creek!!!!
