Science Fun

3rd Grade

Schedule In-School Schedule “On Demand”

Virtual program experiments and activities may vary slightly -but guaranteed to be fun, engaging and meet curriculum standards.

Standards Keyphysics newton

Motion Commotion (VIRTUAL or In-School)
Learn what gets us moving! Junior Physicists will separate fact from fiction as we experiment with friction. Chemically concoct magnetic mush and build a “centripetal force simulator”.  See for yourself how forces can change the speed and/or direction of experiments!
Essential Standard: 3.P.1.1, 3.P.1.2, 3.P.1.3: Understand motion and factors that affect motion.

A Matter of Science (VIRTUAL or In-School)
slime blob solids vs liquidsWe’ll have a “gas” exploring the properties of matter. Have a BLAST mixing a solid & a liquid… to create a gas. Learn a few neat disappearing science tricks as we figure out the different states of matter.
Essential Standard: 3.P.2.1, 3.P.2.2, 3.P.2.3, 3.P.3.1, 3.P.3.2: Understand the structure and properties of matter before and after they undergo a change. Recognize how energy can be transferred from one object to another.

Our Place in SpaceOur Place in Space (VIRTUAL of In-School)
Become an astronomer as we explore the components of the Earth, Moon and Sun system. Learn how to use the shadows from the Sun to tell time with your very own sun-clock! Elementary Astronomers will be “glowing” with excitement as they excavate their own Sizzlin’ Solar System.
Essential Standard: 3.E.1.1, 3.E.1.2: Recognize the major components and patterns observed in the earth/moon/sun system.

Volcano cross sectional Lava, Lakes and LandForms (VIRTUAL or In-school)
From canyons to caverns and volcanoes to valleys, Junior Geologists will be erupting with excitement while exploring and creating Earth’s land-forms. We will also chemically concoct awesome liquid lava flow with real lave inside.
Essential Standard: 3.E.2.1, 3.E.2.2: Compare the structures of the Earth’s surface using models or three-dimensional diagrams.

skeletonSkin-n-Bones (VIRTUAL or In-School)
Get the “Bare Bone Facts” about the skeletal and muscular systems on this anatomical adventure. We’ll learn about and investigate REAL animal hearts, kidneys, eyeballs, brains and more! Even make a skull model to control and keep.
Essential Standard: 3.L.1.1, 3.L.1.2: Understand human body systems and how they are essential for life: protection, movement and support.

Plant Power (Virtual or In-School Only)
plant in test tube “Trans-plant” yourself into the wonderful world of Botany and explore the properties of soil. Watch flowers change color right before your eyes and then grow your own “Plant Pal” with drought defending crystals. Journey through the life cycle of plants and dissect flowers before our finale’ “Xploda-Soda!”
Essential Standard: 3.L.2.1, 3.L.2.2, 3.L.2.3, 3.L.2.4: Understand how plants survive in their environments.
