GRADE: 1st
PROGRAM: Funky Forces
Scientist: Karla

Today was a day full of exciting experiments that had the students discovering different forces and how some of them could even be stronger than the force of gravity! As soon as I entered the school, I could tell it was going to be a fun day, because of the smiling kids who held the door for me, and my giant fun filled cart. The whole first grade was excited and because of the very short walls they could hear all the excitement from the classes before them, so no one was as ready for the field trip as Mrs. McCay class was because they were my last class of the day. I had many students in that class ask such great questions and even had some make some very good hypothesizes on some of my experiments that turned out to be correct!

We built towers of balancing robots and even had a few big ones fall down but they didn’t let that stop them from having a blast! I had one junior scientist even get one balancing birds on each one of their fingers! Way to go! In our other lab we got to see magnets that almost looked like they were levitating and cars that seemed to move on their own without us touching them! At first, we assumed it was magic, but it turns out it was the magnets attracting and repelling each other the whole time. After we experimented with magnets and balancing objects, we used some crazy sounding ingredients to make the students some very own magnetic slime that they got to take home with them. All in all, I think today was one for the books. I had a great time getting to do all these crazy experiences with some awesome junior scientist and I can’t wait to visit their school again!
